Bernice Bing (1936 - 1998)
A San Francisco native, Chinese American, artist, lesbian, community activist—Bernice Bing, was a bridge between many worlds. She came of age during the Beat era and entered the San Francisco arts landscape in the 1960s with her paintings, which synthesize abstract modernist painting with Chinese calligraphy.

“ Abandoned Love is a photographic series in which the artist had people from all over the world (Australia, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, UK, and the USA) send her private thoughts, diary entries, text messages, etc on Tumblr to which she then created into banners and placed on abandoned buildings. ”
Grotto in an ice berg, photographed by Herbert Ponting on Robert Scott’s ill-fated South Pole expedition in 1911. In the background, Scott’s ship, the Terra Nova, can be seen. Scott and his men reached the South Pole on January 17, 1912, only to find they were beaten by Roald Amundsen’s Norwegian expedition by a month. They didn’t survive the return journey.
